Recently, I have been busy " remodelling" some of my old calabash pipes. I must say I quite enjoy the whole process.
Try this, if you are like me …… with too much time on your hands
Take the old calabash pipe, sand it down on the outside and inside… do not worry about the patina outside the pipe, the outer layer of this pipe is quite thick, should be safe . For the outside of the pipe, be sure to polish off with a layer of carnauba wax
The insides should be sanded more to remove the dirt and grime.
I remove the "inner cork" and sand about 1mm.
I reshape the cup if I do not like the shape, up to your imagination. Sandpaper works when shaping the bowl, and after which I apply a thin layer of beeswax to protect the meerschaum bowl.
No harm experimenting with the pipe, you get a new pipe out of an old one, not as good as a "Baki" pipe, but you can be sure no one else has this unique new pipe you created.
