08 年 6 月 ASP 上有篇帖子,美国玩家 Fred Hanna 提过相关观点,说不少老饕认为 Orlik 版的比起 Murray 版还更像 Dunhill 本店版:

Orlik versions of the Dunhill recipes are in general SUPERIOR to the
Murray's. For those who remember the REAL Dunhill (the blends that
were actually blended by Dunhill) Murray's version of Dunhill was not
Dunhill at all and a travesty in terms of quality. For newcomers, who
began smoking Dunhill tobaccos in the mid 1980s, they would never have
known any of this unless they were lucky enough to smoke the old,
genuine Dunhill tobaccos. But in fairness, the Murray's stuff did
improve after 3 years or more of aging but never to the point of being
even vaguely equivalent to the real Dunhill blends.
What is little known is that Dunhill did continue to make their own
blends in very limited quantity that were available only through the
London store. These were the MyMixture blends such as White Spot,
1066, Baby's Bottom and others. Murray's had nothing to do with these
wonderful blends. I was directly told this by the London supervisor of
Dunhill tobacco blends, Marc Burrrows. Tragically, Dunhill stopped
production of these a few years ago. And my precious and favorite
White Spot blend is no more. That too, was a demise and the last
breath of Dunhill tobacco.

这里有个可比性的问题:我们以前抽的 053/054,都是店家卖不出去的仓底货,因为那时抽国内抽原味的人还不多 (其实现在比例上也不多,问问开店的朋友就知道了)。厂家出厂前放过,经过层层通路,还要在批发商和店家那里积压,所以我们当时买的 Dunhill 053,一开就可以抽,就是一股很香浓的酵味。现在转到 Orlik,这是一个很全球化的企业,摆明是要整合全球的 pipe tobaccos (长尾理论?!) ,通路效率更高,且很有可能缩短了出厂前放的时间以缩减成本,所以我们到手的都是很生涩的新草。
最近搞了一点别的品牌的草,草本身质量应该是很好的,但也是太生涩了,刚开的时候简直没法抽,都怀疑它堕落了,几个人研判了半天。一股 “装罐味” (这是我随口生造出来的说法,就是闻着有股疑似调味草的吊诡甜腻味道,好像是又好像不是;闻着尤其是抽起来有股白嘴吃味精的味道)。但打开装瓶子里放了一阵,就变得很好抽了。虽然没有真空长期闷出来的酵味,但那股邪气的装罐味也没了。后来又开了一罐应该是放了一阵 (但时间肯定很不长) 的这个草,一打开也抽出点酵味来了,装罐味也几乎察觉不出来。可见好草也是要放出来的。
烟草放放,我认为绝不单单是糖分转化这么简单:别的大量化学物质的分解与生成 (什么酚? 要请教村里的生化专家了),当然还有成分烟草间的互相融合,都是使得烟草更好抽,越陈越香的因素。 |
