Bowl coating

This is an experiment wherein two pieces of briar were cut from the same block and exposed to an open flame. One was coated with a mixture of sodium silicate, pumice, and activated charcoal. The other was left as "raw briar."

This brief experiment tests the claim that, because Sodium Silicate is classified as "anhydrous" on Material Safety Data Sheets, that a mixture of sodium silicate, activated charcoal, and pumice will form a hard "glass like" layer preventing moisture from passing through the coating and, therefore, creating a "wet" smoke.

I got It! Thanks! But I don't think if I use the raw briar(Non-Charcoal) might burn like that, usually I smoke peace and not so fast wouldn't cause that burn

All kinds of the dry woods are easily burned. In the ancient China and western countries , people mainly use woods for cooking and keeping warm in winter.

Therefore, what the briar of pipes with some chemical liquid made should be necessary in production process.
