I regard Peter as one of the greatest carvers of our time, in the same class as Jess Chonowitsch, Teddy Knudsen, Tom Eltang, and yes, even Sixten Ivarson. This pipe was originally in the Viennese Tobacco Museum. Peter made it for himself, never intending to sell it. You can see it on his web site by clicking here. It is an amazing piece of work. The tall, dublin-esque bowl curves at the bottom to form a helix around the handcut vulcanite bit. The grain is remarkable, and so is the quality of workmanship. The smoke hole enters the bore precisely at the bottom for ideal combustion. The pipe is very light and comfortable in the mouth, and feels great in the hand as well. This is a unique piece--there is only one other such, this one with a horn bit, but it isn't quite as nice. It has no nomenclature or grading, but I have a note from Peter indicating that if it were to have been graded, it would have been a CU, his highest.
