1 day and 9 hours to go…..maybe will hit 200 bids and winning bid ….usd 39.99 ?;P;P;P An estate meerschaum pipe can be thoroughly cleaned? Will it taste smelly or gross, or with ghost smell? That will depend on what type of ghosts you are referring to.
If the ghosts are from theLake District ... they usually can't be smoked out. :Q
Only that barbaric S/A treatment or some other equally crude method will remove it.I am talking about briars here.
For Meerschaum, here is what I suggest:
Use paper towel with a bit of alcohol for the meerschaum cup.Pour some alcohol into the gourd and pour the alcohol out the stem end of the gourd.
Some experts also suggest this :
Turn the meer cup over and look at the draft hole. Is it dark and soft with tar? Use a lighter and apply flame to the cup near the draft hole. If it has enough tar then it's soft and it will sustain a flame by itself. Let it burn until it depletes the tar and goes out on its own. Then let it cool. it should be reasonably hard again. Now you can run a pipe cleaner through it. If you try to clean a tar saturated bowl the meer is so soft that even a pipe cleaner can cause chunks to break away. It's the nature of the material.
Again,Meershaum pipe need to be handle with care and please avoid soaking it in alcohol
You may want to read through some of older threads to help get rid of ghosts and bad smell. :victory: Thank you sir, for the expertise! First of all, you are quite humorous.
I don't think Alcohol is a good way; the lighter burn-out treatment sounds cool, worthy trying...
For me, currently, still not a tobacco addict and two briars can satisfy me. However, the question is always there, a block meerschaum, a pressed calabash or a cheap (pressed, of course) meerschaum lined briar. I don't wanna indulge myself so in the future the next pipe must be with small/medium volume; well, I guess, a lining pipe would be perfect. Some one gave poor rating to lined pipes, some one said okay. What do you think, JT? Congratulations on becoming a full member of pipe village. :victory:
As with regards to lined pipes, I cannot give any advise as i do not own one.If given a choice, I prefer block meerschaum pipes, they come in many bowl sizes (small and medium), i have many ranging in very small to very large.
You can try IMP meerschaums, they are good value for money, smokingpipe.com also carries a wide range.I am not advertising for them, but i have had good buying experience with them, some other shops may be a nightmare to deal with.
If you are a young chap, and have not gotten addicted to it yet, my advice (from a long time addicted smoker) is not to smoke if you can help it.I am retired and on the older side, save you money and invest in wiser areas :victory:
My wife is worried about my health all the time. Do try to take care of your health so that your loved one won't have to worry. :lol

wow, the membership!! I am so thrilled!Yeah, my wife does care about my health and I always pipe the tobacco on living room balcony with the door tightly closed. And I do use Vauen active-carbon filters; I don't recycle the used ones... In order to reduce/control the volume, each evening I just smoked a small tight pinch of tobacco(exactly as the last step in Frank Method, lol) and only packed about 1/4 to 1/3 full; that volume took me about 20min, good enough for daily nicotine dose demand, lol
Once the addiction overwhelms me, I will consider IMP seriously; we both wish I will never reach that point, right? hehe
Thank you again! Have a nice day, sir!
